First Sentence

When the Wailers had their first hit, "Simmer Down" in 1964, the Anglo-centric Jamaican daily newspaper, The Gleaner, was more interested in covering the world's reaction to the Beatles and Jamaican popular success abroad (such as Millie Small, who scored a stateside hit in 1964 with "My Boy Lollipop") than any local recording act, no matter how in tune they were with The Gleaner's coverage at that time.
